Division of Safety and Risk Services (SRS)

The mission of Safety and Risk Services is to collaborate with the campus community to safeguard human health and reduce the university's vulnerability to conditions adversely affecting its ability to fulfill the core mission. The departments have a shared mission to safeguard campus and reduce vulnerabilities to enable students and faculty to safely teach, learn and conduct research. The Division of Safety and Risk Services creates opportunities to make cross-disciplinary partnerships more commonplace. This organizational structure encourages a broader look at risk and safety to solve problems collaboratively.

University of Oregon Police Department (UOPD)

The University of Oregon Police Department (UOPD) is dedicated to fostering an exceptionally safe and secure campus environment, enabling students, faculty, and staff to focus on the university's core mission of instruction, research, and public service. Operating 24/7 throughout the year, UOPD officers patrol the campus on foot, by bicycle, and by vehicle, ensuring campus safety, preventing crime, and enforcing laws. The department is composed of sworn police officers, community service officers, student security assistants, private security officers, dispatchers, and civilian staff fulfilling various essential roles. Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) helps maintain a healthy and safe campus environment by providing education, monitoring, technical problem-solving, and critical services. EHS staff having specialized knowledge are available to provide technical support, safety training, regulatory compliance assistance, and work collaboratively with campus partners to identify and resolve health, safety, and environmental issues. Additionally, EHS provides critical physical plant services such as public events fire safety, environmental remediation project management, fire protection systems repair and maintenance, and hazardous regulated waste collection and disposal.

Emergency Management and Continuity (EMC)

Emergency Management and Continuity (EMC) is responsible for university wide preparedness, mitigation, response, continuity and recovery planning and implementation. This work involves planning, training and outreach, and testing emergency plans and procedures. EMC also coordinates the emergency notification system known as UO Alert.

Risk Management and Insurance (RMI)

Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) leads efforts to protect the university’s assets by identifying, analyzing, and controlling exposures; mitigating risks; financing losses; and implementing and monitoring the risk management process.  Specific functions handled by Risk Management and Insurance include claims processing, workers' compensation administration, and the management and procurement of the university's insurance program.

Location Innovation Lab (LIL)

The Location Innovation Lab (LIL) team manages the university’s campus geographic information systems (GIS) and mapping program and develops custom software applications in the pursuit of fostering a more resilient organization. LIL leverages a home-grown spatial database of 30,000+ rooms and 375 buildings across multiple campuses. Applications created by LIL are used daily by students, employees, and the campus community. LIL is also a program in the Institute for Resilient Organizations, Communities, and Environments, bringing a unique, innovative lens to complicated administrative issues.
