Safety committees are an integral part of building a strong University safety culture. There are numerous safety committees and teams at the University that oversee various aspects of safety that affect students, visitors, faculty, staff, or the campus community as a whole. Committees meet regulatory safety requirements and create a place where safety is the sole discussion, leading to positive changes for the UO community.
Employee safety committees work directly impacts employees of the University. They are a crucial mechanism of UO safety and can be classified into two general categories: institutional and department specific. EHS leads, facilitates, and participates in many of these committees.

Institutional Committees:
Institutional committees are assigned charges to oversee larger themes of safety at the University that affect faculty and staff. Committees review safety incidents, discuss safety concerns, complete safety inspections of University work areas, and review and reccomend changes that directly affect UO employees.
Department Committees:
Department safety committees are made up of a collaborative group of management and staff. They regularly review department specific injury/incident data, discuss safety concerns and trends, share new safety ideas, and make reccomendations for larger safety related changes to administration.
