What/Suspect Description: Barricaded suspect most likely armed.   

UO Action Taken:  Law enforcement is on scene. EPD requests those within 2 blocks shelter in place. 

What-to-do:  Avoid the area.  If you can provide information about this incident call 541-346-2919.  In emergencies or if you see a crime being committed, call 9-1-1.

The University of Oregon Police Department will conduct an active threat training exercise with Johnson Hall building occupants on Thursday, Dec. 12, between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.  

All training will be done inside the building. Johnson Hall will be closed and locked during the exercise. No one will be allowed to enter. Signs indicating that an exercise is occurring will be placed at entrances and exits.  

Passersby may see police vehicles nearby and uniformed officers entering and exiting the building. Some loud sounds may be heard.   

Regular training and exercises are vital to developing and maintaining key emergency response skills and are critical to the overall safety and security of the campus.  

Even with advance knowledge, those passing Johnson Hall may experience adverse reactions because of the sights and sounds that will be part of the training. Student crisis support is available 24/7 by calling 541-346-3227. Visit the Mental Health Services and Employee Assistance Plans websites for additional resources.

The Tsunami Warning is canceled for the coastal areas of Oregon, including the OIMB campus. No tsunami danger presently exists for this area.

A TSUNAMI WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR THE CHARLESTON AREA INCLUDING OIMB. 

If you are located in this coastal area, move inland to higher ground.

Estimated tsunami start time for Charleston Oregon is 1140 AM. PST. December 5.

Tsunami warnings mean that a tsunami with significant inundation is possible or is already occurring. Tsunamis are a series of waves dangerous many hours after initial arrival time. The first wave may not be the largest.

At 1044 AM Pacific Standard Time on December 5 an earthquake with preliminary magnitude 7.3 occurred 45 miles southwest of Eureka California.


5:50 p.m. update - the location of the second incident has been updated to having occurred on Alder Street.

Nov. 15, 2024, 5:00 p.m. 

On Thursday, Nov. 14, the University of Oregon Police Department (UOPD) received two reports of an individual handing out candy on and near campus and then touching other people’s intimate body parts intentionally and without consent. This is considered sexual assault. 

Reported incidents: 

Nov. 14, 2024, 11:30 a.m. - A victim walking near Straub Hall reported an unknown male handed her candy and slapped her on the rear end.  

Nov. 14, 2024, 11:40 a.m. - Another victim reported their crotch being grabbed in a similar incident while walking on Alder Street near Dave’s Hot Chicken, 1285 Alder St. This was reported to Eugene Police Department and shared with UOPD.  

UOPD has identified a suspect for both incidents and steps have been taken to exclude them from campus. These reported events are under investigation. If you have any information, or experienced a similar event, contact the UO Police Department non-emergency number at 541-346-2919.  


No action or inaction by a crime survivor makes that person responsible for their victimization. Perpetrators are responsible for crimes and their effects.   Resources and support are available for survivors of crime in person and by phone 24 hours a day.

  • Duck Nest in EMU is staffed by Peer Wellness Advocates and provides a place for students to practice self-care and life-balance.
