The University of Oregon places the security and safety of its students, employees, and visitors as its highest priority. In an emergency, the university uses multiple modes of communication to ensure as many individuals as possible receive notifications quickly. This includes sending UO Alerts messages and posting the Alerts Page

UO Alerts

UO Alerts are sent when there is an imminent threat to health and/or safety to the campus community. UO Alerts are emailed to all @uoregon.edu email accounts and posted to the Alerts Page. You can sign up to receive UO Alerts via text. 

Sign Up for UO Alerts Texts

UO students and employees can sign up for UO Alerts texts through DuckWeb or via text. Sign up either using DuckWeb OR via text. If you sign up through both methods, you will receive double notifications. Standard data rates and charges may apply.

  1. Login to DuckWeb
  2. Select Personal Information/My Profile
  3. Go to Phone Number section
  4. Select Add New
  5. Under Phone Type choose UO Alert Emergency Cell
  6. Enter your phone number
  7. Select Add

  2. Select Personal Information/My Profile
  3. Go to Phone Number section
  4. Select Add New
  5. Under Phone Type choose UO Alert Emergency Cell #2
  6. Enter your phone number
  7. Select Add
Stop Receiving Texts
  1. Login to DuckWeb
  2. Select Personal Information/My Profile
  3. Go to Phone Number section
  4. Go to UO Alert Emergency Cell Phone section
  5. Select the Trash bin icon/Delete
  6. Select Delete

Send one of the campus codes to 333111. Campus codes are:

  • UOEUG
  • UOPDX
  • UOOIMB

To receive Summer only alerts for the Eugene campus, use code UOSUMMER.

Stop Receiving Texts

If you sign up via text, test STOP and the campus code to 333111.

Alerts Page

The Alerts Page is part of the university's Crisis and Emergency Notification System. It provides emergency-related information to the campus community and the public in three categories:

Information Only
 
A situation that does not present an imminent threat but where the campus community may be concerned about safety or security
Urgent
 
An incident or condition that does not pose an imminent threat to life or safety, but where timely receipt of information or instructions may directly affect the well-being of the recipient.
Emergency
 
An event, expected or unexpected, that poses an imminent threat to the health and safety of students, faculty, and staff and requires immediate action.

Additional Ways Alerts Are Shared

Digital Displays

Many departments and facilities on campus utilize digital signage to share information and announce events and activities. Several of these digital display systems are configured to receive and display UO Alert messages.

University Communications and Safety & Risk Services staff have the ability to post emergency information on the UO homepage. 

Local Media

The UO shares emergency information with print, online, and broadcast media to ensure the surrounding community receives information.
