Eugene Security Advisory – Recent drink/vape/edible tampering reports

Nov. 4, 2025  3:15 p.m.

Dear UO Community,

University officials have received reports of drink and other consumable tampering during parties and other student gatherings. While we do not believe these incidents are connected, they constitute a trend of targeting students.

Recent incidents include:

  • A report of drink tampering while attending a registered fraternity event on Saturday, Nov. 1.
  • A report of drink tampering at a fraternity live-out on Friday, Oct. 31.
  • A report of tampering with a cannabis edible on Saturday, Oct. 25.
  • A report of vape tampering at a fraternity party on Saturday, Sept. 27.

It is illegal to tamper with another person’s drink or vaping device or to cause them to consume an intoxicant without their knowledge.  If you are concerned that you have been the victim or drink or vape tampering, call Poison Control immediately, 1-800-222-1222.

Because illegal intoxicants leave one’s system quickly, we recommend getting drug testing as soon as possible. If you visit to a medical facility, even if you do not believe that you have experienced a sexual assault, request a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) exam. This screening includes testing that could result in confirmation that tampering occurred.

Report potential tampering to the UO Police Department non-emergency number at 541-346-2919.

Victims of crime can also anonymously report their experience by texting 541-313-4357 (HELP). This RealResponse connection allows UO to learn about the incident and provide support services. Communications are anonymous until and unless the victim chooses to identify themself.

The university maintains a list of drugging incidents reported around campus since January 2024. New information is added to this site as available. The site also includes options for reporting and frequently asked questions about tampering incidents. See https://investigations.uoregon.edu/preventing-and-responding-drugging-incidents.

Information about university conduct actions and chapter status of fraternity and sorority organizations is available at https://dos.uoregon.edu/fsl-status.

No action or inaction by a crime survivor makes that person responsible for their victimization. Perpetrators are responsible for crimes and their effects. Resources and support are available for survivors of crime in person and by phone 24 hours a day.

Safety tips for partying:

  • Never leave your drink unattended and use caution when accepting drinks or other substances from others.
  • Call 9-1-1 for medical and law enforcement assistance if you think something unknown has been added to your drink.
  • Don’t accept an open drink. If you order a drink, watch the person open the bottle or mix your drink.
  • Don’t accept offers to vape, or request to vape, from others’ devices.
  • Stay with friends, watch out for each other, and let others know where you will be. Students who have experienced sexual or domestic violence can find immediate help and confidential resources at safe.uoregon.edu or the 24-hour SAFE hotline at 541-346-SAFE (7233).
  • The Office of the Dean of Students Care and Advocacy Program can help student survivors of a crime find support options online or call 541-346-3216.
  • University Counseling Services is open weekdays until 5:00 p.m. For 24-hour crisis support call 541-346-3227.
