Law enforcement, including University of Oregon Police, Oregon State Police and Eugene Police, will have a strong presence at the University of Oregon Campus today, in preparation for the Turning Point USA event at the Erb Memorial Union.
The event is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Officers are on scene to keep the peace and protect the rights of all individuals who wish to express their beliefs.
Law enforcement is asking everyone who intends to participate in the event to do so respectfully and peacefully and abide by all laws.
The University of Oregon upholds the right to free expression and academic freedom as essential to our mission. We are committed to upholding these rights while fostering an inclusive and respectful campus.
Our facilities are available for public use. Many different organizations regularly schedule events on campus. Turning Point USA reserved the EMU amphitheater for the Oct. 28 event, agreeing to UO policies in holding the event.
UO policies, rules, and expectations are applied in a manner neutral to the viewpoints expressed.
As President Scholz recently shared with the UO community - engage in discourse and disagreement but do so in a way that has the chance to persuade.
