The University of Oregon is aware of reports of five sexual assaults that occurred on or near campus in the past week. Four involved university students, and the fifth occurred near the Alton Baker Dog park, adjacent to university property. An arrest has been made in the fifth case. All impacted students have been offered university support resources.

These assaults are not believed to be related, but several alleged perpetrators may have taken advantage of the fact that the victims were intoxicated at social events. Details of the assaults are not being disclosed at this time because police investigations are underway by both the University of Oregon Police Department and Eugene Police Department.

What is this notice? Campus Crime Warnings are sent by the University of Oregon Police Department when certain crimes are reported on or near campus property, and in compliance with federal law. These advisories provide information for campus community members to take precautions for personal safety. All crimes should be reported as soon as possible to local law enforcement. 

Expectations of our Community

• The university expressly prohibits nonconsensual sexual activity and does not tolerate it in any form.
• Never use force, coercion, threats, alcohol, or other drugs to facilitate sexual activity.
• No one should ever be sexually assaulted or victimized in any way.
• Submission, intoxication, incapacitation, or silence do not convey consent.
• Understand and respect personal boundaries.

Safety Tips

No action or inaction by a crime survivor makes that person responsible for their victimization. Perpetrators are responsible for crimes and their effects. The following suggestions may help reduce the possibility of experiencing such a crime or may improve opportunities to receive prompt assistance. 

• Be alert traveling to, from, and around campus – especially at night. 
• Stay in well-lit areas. The UO online map shows the best-lit route and locations of emergency phones around campus. 
• Carry a well-charged cell phone with emergency numbers pre-programmed. 
• The UO Mobile App has safety resources, safe ride options, and maps.
• Duck Rides nighttime transportation services for UO students, staff and faculty. The free service runs seven days a week, 6 p.m. to midnight. Call 541-346-7433 or email duckrides@uoregon.edu. 
• The university offers free self-defense workshops and classes.
• UOPD provides free on-campus escorts. Call 541-346-2919. 
• Communities are safest when members look out for each other.  
• Report criminal activity immediately to 9-1-1. For non-emergency situations on campus, call 541-346-2919. 

Resources for survivors of crime 

• Students who have experienced sexual or domestic violence can find immediate support and resource options at safe.uoregon.edu or call the 24-hour SAFE hotline at 541-346-SAFE (7233). 
• The Office of the Dean of Students Care and Advocacy Program can help student survivors of a crime find support options online or call 541-346-3216.  
• University Counseling Services is open weekdays until 5 p.m. For 24-hour crisis support call 541-346-3227.   
• Duck Nest is staffed by Peer Wellness Advocates and provides a place for students to practice self-care and life-balance.
