UO Eugene Campus Crime Warning: Willamette Hall break in

Four offices in Willamette Hall were broken into over the weekend of Aug. 1-2. The break in was reported on Monday, Aug. 3. The suspect used tools to force their way through the office doors and took musical instruments, clothing, and computer equipment worth about $450. There is no suspect information. It is not known how they entered the building.

University of Oregon Police Department has increased patrols in and around Willamette Hall and other campus buildings as the investigation continues.

The campus community should be aware of unfamiliar people in and around office buildings, secure doors and valuables, and report anything that seems out of place.

What is this notice? Campus Crime Warnings are sent by the University of Oregon Police Department when certain crimes are reported on or near campus property, and in compliance with federal law. These advisories provide information for campus community members to take precautions for personal safety. All crimes should be reported as soon as possible to local law enforcement. 

SAFETY TIPS FROM UOPD   

No action or inaction by a crime survivor makes that person responsible for his or her victimization. Perpetrators are responsible for crimes and their effects. The following suggestions may help reduce the possibility of experiencing such a crime or may improve opportunities to receive prompt assistance.   

  • Make sure to lock all doors and windows when leaving the room or building.  
  • Secure your belongings and don’t leave them unattended.  
  • Don’t hold doors open for unknown people to let them enter private, secure areas.  
  • Report criminal activity (such as a break-in or intruder, robbery, or assault) immediately to 911, or for non-emergency situations on campus, to UOPD at 541-346-2919.
