UO Alert OIMB: Tsunami Advisory

UO Alert OIMB: Tsunami Advisory issued for OIMB area.  Be aware of 1-1.5 foot wave surge expected about 11:45 p.m.

There is a tsunami advisory issued for the entire west coast, including the area surrounding the OIMB Campus in Charleston.  An 8.7 earthquake has been reported off of the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia.

Coos County Emergency Management advises to expect about a foot of wave action starting at about 11:45 p.m., which is close to the time of low tide. Those in the area should stay away from the water and prepare to evacuate to higher ground if necessary.

A tsunami is more than one wave. Stay away from the shoreline until the danger has passed. Listen to local media for information from emergency management authorities.
