The nature of work in a laboratory is to investigate the unknown, and to regularly manipulate tools and substances that have hazardous characteristics.  Attention to safety is a critical component to laboratory operations.  Attention to incident response procedures is equally critical.

Process

Response procedures include:

  • Spill clean-up.
  • Evacuation and access control of an impacted area.
  • First aid and/or medical treatment.
  • Required reporting and recordkeeping associated with employee injury.

The offices of Environmental Health and Safety, Emergency Management, and Risk Management are available to assist maintenance and trades workers, scientists, support staff, and students, in planning for appropriate incident response.
